Grand Master Solomon Hok Tok Yun

Friends, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Grand Master Solomon Yun. On February 16th, in the presence of his Senior Black Belts and close friend Sandra Kim, Kwan Jang Nim passed at the age of 84 at Swedish-Edmonds Hospital just north of Seattle.

Grand Master Yun was like a father to generations of students, family, and friends throughout his amazing 75-year career, demonstrating leadership, innovation, vision, and especially incredible skills that continually amazed even the most experienced Martial Artists. He was one of the last original old school Ji Do Kwan Grand Masters from Korea who made his name as Korean National Champion before migrating to the US. Many will remember his popular Yun’s Martial Arts and World Martial Arts & Health schools located in Tacoma, University District, Ballard, Mercer Island, Bellevue, and Lynnwood.

His Senior Blackbelts, in conjunction with many other well-known Masters and Grand Masters, have worked tirelessly throughout his transition in planning a significant memorial to honor his incredible life on April 28th, 2024. (More details forthcoming). This will be an excellent time for all of Kwan Jang Nim’s former students, family and friends to reconnect in celebration of his life.

He was a father to many of us and made Tae Kwon Do what it is in the Pacific Northwest. Grand Master Yun was a significant part of many of our lives, and his training, discipline and friendship contributed to many accomplishments that we enjoy today. His legacy will be deeply remembered throughout our lives.
